iObject exists to provide expert planning support so your development concerns can be professionally presented to council

We know how development can become a real problem for people living nearby without the advantage of a robust planning submission.

With self‑representation, neighbourhood concerns can be overlooked or dismissed by council if not composed within the regulatory framework or with the backing of legal precedent. Hence, within the complex regulatory environment that governs development applications (DA’s), having a qualified town planner in your corner can ultimately ensure your argument carries sufficient weight to alter the outcome

We help affected property owners to level the playing field against well-resourced applicants looking to build without concern for neighbours

iObject’s planning expertise can ensure your submission is thus grounded in the same regulatory language that councils use in the assessment process.

iObject partners with affected property owners by lodging an Objection to Council, detailing all the adverse effects of the proposed development. We want to assist you to protect YOUR HOME, YOUR LIFESTYLE, AND YOUR INVESTMENT.

iObject can submit a detailed submission to Council on your behalf, and can succeed in protecting your home from an undesirable development. Our planning objection service offers landowners the opportunity to moderate the excesses of a neighbour’s DA, before it becomes an unwanted problem.

We offer personalised support, deploying our own town planners to ensure your voice resonates with the council. Trust us to champion your cause and achieve the best outcome for your neighbourhood. Why not partner with iObject today to protect your sanctuary?

Meet the Founder

Matthew Powell

Principal Town Planner

BPlan (UNSW), RPIA

iObject began its operations in response to the growing need for greater expert support to protect the community from offending developments. After practicing as a town planner within the public and private sectors, iObject’s founder, Matthew Powell witnessed the growing number of residents being overrun by insensitive building projects without the means to resist. Well-resourced property buyers or developers were willing to spend big on consultant town planners to maximise their development potential, often to the detriment of the local neighbourhood. iObject was thus established as a private consultancy to help affected property owners to level the playing field against well-resourced developers or homeowners looking to build without concern for neighbouring properties.

Matthew is a qualified town planner with a bachelor’s degree in town planning (B. Planning 2010, UNSW). He maintains full membership as a registered town planner with the Planning Institute of Australia (RPIA) (Mem. No. 79157).

Matthew has broad experience obtaining successful development outcomes for neighbours of DA’s. His innovate design review technique developed in conjunction with highly regarded architects in the industry have led to numerous improvements in design quality among DA’s he has scrutinised. Matthew has proven to be a strong communicator when appealing to council officers for better development outcomes, along with being an effective advocate representing clients before planning panels and court.

There are many reasons, known as ‘planning grounds’ that can be used to challenge a development proposal under local and state regulations

If a DA fails to comply with planning controls, council has the authority to amend or even flatly refuse the application. Unfortunately, all too often development proposals proceed through this process without full consideration of neighbours’ rights.

Our town planners will listen to your concerns, identify the planning grounds that can be used to compose a strong planning objection, and prepare a detailed submission to local or State government defending your planning rights.

We aim to ensure your views are given careful, professional consideration — not dismissed for lack of planning merit.

Much like self-representation in court, when neighbours represent themselves on a DA matter, they may be up against a consultant town planner representing the other side

Our dedication to protecting the sanctuary you call home drives everything we do. Our experienced team utilise tried and tested methods to defend your planning rights before council. At iObject, we’ve got you covered every step of the way because we:

  • Speak council’s language — planning submissions are drafted based on relevant policies, legislation, and planning controls.

  • Level the playing field — applicants often use planning consultants; and in like manner, iObject offers neighbours the same professional support so that our clients have the best chance of success.

  • Provide tailored guidance — whether it’s an individual property objection or a neighbourhood group objection, we can advocate for your planning rights throughout the development assessment process, including if the application goes to court.

Finally, iObject’s team of planners and consultants know that building beautifully does not have to be a thing of the past, however using our innovative design review technique, poor design can be remedied at the DA stage so it does not become a permanent problem.
